Sapotaceae (Ericales) is a botanical family of pan-tropical distribution that comprehends 53 genera and about 1,250 species, with Pouteria being the richest genus holding ca. 200 species. In Brazil there are 122 species, of which 52 are endemic. In the Brazilian Atlantic Forest 36 species are recorded, with greater expressiveness and endemism in Espírito Santo and Bahia states. The present study aimed to enhance the understanding of the genus in the Atlantic Forest through collection campaigns in Santa Lucia Biological Station (EBSL), Santa Teresa, ES, Brazil, as well as the study of herbaria specimens. A total of 13 taxa were identified in EBSL: Pouteria bangii (Rusby) T.D. Penn., P. bullata (S. Moore) Baehni, P. caimito (Ruiz & Pav.) Radlk. Sitzungsber., P. cuspidata (A. DC.) Baehni, P. durlandii (Standl.) Baehni, P. gardneri (Mart. & Miq.) Baehni, P. guianensis Aubl., P. macahensis T.D. Penn., Fl. Neotrop., P. macrocarpa (Mart.) Dietr., P. psammophila (Mart.) Radlk, Sitzungsber., P. reticulata (Engl.) Eyma, P. samborae Mônico & Alves-Araújo sp. nov. e P. venosa subsp. amazonica T.D. Penn..All taxa descriptions, identification keys, comments, illustrations and a field guide were confectioned. P. macrocarpa was only recorded for the Amazon Forest and has emerged as a new record for the Atlantic Forest, showing disjunct distribution patterns; whereas P. samborae constitutes a new scientific record. The results support further evidence that the study area has a high potential for species richness, both in Sapotaceae as for other taxa.
