Resumo

Calycophyllum spruceanum is a native tree species in the Amazon region, rapidly growing, producing dense, high calorific wood. These characteristics are desirable for the production of charcoal, however, studies of wood for their production are scarce, requiring an adequate characterization of this material in order to better understand their properties for energy use. Therefore, the objective of this study was to characterize the wood and charcoal produced Calycophyllum spruceanum. The material was collected in an experimental planting of Embrapa Acre, located in Rio Branco, AC, consisting of 300 trees aged six, planted at spacing of 3 x 2 m. For the characterization of wood were analyzed chemical composition and energy; longitudinal variation of the anatomical characteristics, colorimetric, density and shrinkage. In addition, we tested three carbonization marches in the laboratory to determine the charcoal yield, condensable gases, non-condensable; and apparent energy density; chemical analysis and gross calorific value of coal produced. It was observed that anatomical, physical and colorimetric properties of wood vary in the longitudinal direction. Because they have shown higher results charcoal yield, higher calorific value, density and energy, low ash content; marches that possessed lower heating rates were considered best for the production of charcoal. Studies on the characteristics of this forest species will contribute to scientific knowledge, making a considerable tool for recovery and sale of wood.
