O parto na TV : um estudo a partir de um programa de jornalismo utilitário sobre saúde

Abstract

The field of Communication and Health is a challenging course, because when crossing concepts of Communication with Health area concepts it creates the need for a dialogue between experts on both sides, in order to converge on the study of a field with many potentialities. The study presented in this Thesis analyzed the videos related to delivery broadcasted by television media, in the years 2011 to 2016. The search result is presented in the form of article that this is a qualitative study whose objective was to analyze how delivery is represented in Bem-Estar program, a utility journal program that specifically addresses health issues. In order to check how the media has discussed the topic and the issues that permeate the discussion was based on the criticism of medicalized society that Ivan Illich does in his book Nemesis of medicine: the expropriation of health. A Content Analysis of the empirical material was performed, giving rise to five categories: childbirth as a commodity; normalization of caesarean section as a way of being born; the counterproductive effect of cesarean sections; The alienation of pain and in search of autonomy. From these categories a discussion was carried out on the medicalization of childbirth in modern society and its consequences at the individual and social level. It was concluded that the current scenario of obstetric practices is the result of a heterogeneous medical overproduction that leads to an exacerbated and medicalization from an iatrogenic classification of the stages of life. The excess of technologies in the management of childbirth presents consequences that cross social and health economic factors and that must be discussed openly with the society. An effective and appropriate Communication on the subject is fundamental for the recovery of the exercise of women's autonomy in relation to their body and their vital processes.
