Nós e a gente em Vitória : análise sociolinguística da fala capixaba

Abstract

The objective of this work consists of the analysis and description in the speech of some people who are originally from Vitória of the use of the variant forms nós and a gente in the theoretical and methodological perspective of Variationist Sociolinguistics. The studied corpus for our analysis is constituted by 40 interviews that had been carried through in the period from 2001 to 2003 for constitution of Project PORTVIX of the Federal University of Espírito Santo - UFES. In intention to reach the traced objective it was investigated the role of the linguistic and social factors in the use of the variant forms nós and a gente. The analysis of the linguistic variables reveals the weight of factors as the reference frame as well as the role of the verbal time in the aiding of the use of the innovative form. In relation to the analysis of the social factors, the vigorous effect of the variables “age” and “gender”. The women and the young lead the change process. The results of this work indicate that Vitória if lines up to other researches carried through in Rio de Janeiro (LOPES), Florianópolis (SEARA), Jaguarão and Pelotas (BORGES) and Porto Alegre (ZILLES) which conclude that the form a gente is more used than nós.
