Introduction: The beginning of academic life generates major changes for young people, which can lead to impacts on their mental health, a situation that can be exacerbated by the Coronavirus pandemic. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of Common Mental Disorder (CMD) and its associated factors among nursing students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with nursing students from a public university in Espírito Santo. Data were collected in May and June 2020 using two self-administered instruments. The first was an instrument to assess sociodemographic issues and the second was the Self Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) for the TMC. Results: The prevalence of Common Mental Disorder found among nursing students was 64.9% and the associated factors were current psychological problems and satisfaction with the course (p-value < 0.05). Final considerations: This study points to a high prevalence of CMD among nursing students during the pandemic. However, it is of great importance that the university promotes in the students' daily routine, actions that include intra and extra-curricular experiences, strengthening the bonds between the student and the institution, so that these strategies can improve the quality of life and well-being. being of the students during the training period, minimizing the possibility of the emergence of CMD
