The use of ozone therapy may reduce the adverse effects of drugs used in veterinary routine. The postoperative analgesic effect of intra rectal administration of ozone and ozone injected into acupoints was investigated in twenty four bitches submitted to ovariohysterectomy. The animals were divided in three groups of same number: GCM – administration of meloxicam (0.5 mg/kg SC); GIO – rectal administration of ozone (10 mL) and GOA – application of ozone in the Sp6, St36, Liv3 , LI4 and GB34 acupoints (0.5 mL per acupoint). Animals were sedated with acepromazine (0.05 mg/kg IM). After 10 minutes, preemptive analgesia was administered according to the experimental group and after 30 more minutes, anaesthesia was induced with propofol (5 mg/kg IV) and fentanyl (bolus 2.5 mg/kg IV) and maintained with isoflurane in O2. Pain score was measured by the modified Glasgow pain scale (MGPS) and visual analogue scale (VAS) the day before the procedure, before anaesthesia (basal) and at 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24 hours after extubation. In the event of scores above 3.33 points in the MGPS, rescue analgesia was performed with 0.5 mg/kg of morphine IM. Statistical analysis consisted of Kruskal-Wallis test for differences between groups, Friedman test for differences between moments in the same group and profile analysis. There were no significant differences between the three analgesic protocols and no differences among the moments in each group. The results of indicate that the rectal administration of ozone and ozone injected in the Sp6, St36, Liv3 , LI4 and GB34 acupoints produced satisfactory postoperative analgesia for 24 hours in bitches undergoing minimally invasive elective ovariohysterectomy
