Resumo

This dissertation intends to understand the formation and transformation of peripheral areas, considering the forms of production of urban housing. Our understanding is that the performance of the real estate market, which was already emerging as a form of hegemonic production in the 1970s in the Espírito Santo State context, contributed to the formation of peripheral neighborhoods, due to the reproduction peculiarities of this sector, especially its relationship with the land. We also analyzed the changes that took place in the neighborhood, which transformed the periphery into a new expansion front for real estate capital. Thus, unlocking new areas, in an incessant search for valuation and capture of income from the instrumentalization of land ownership, the real estate market reproduces itself and makes it even more difficult living in the city, for those that suffer from different forms of plundering. Our research examines Feu Rosa Neighborhood, municipality of Serral. This neighborhood was originated from a public promotion in the late 1970s, and underwent different transformations that point to new spatialities, and which leads us to the question: Where is it going the periphery? It is not our intention to build a single answer to this complex issue but to contribute to other readings on the urban periphery, which, with all the contradictions existing in a capitalist society, continues to increase and make the city more expensive for those who inhabit this space
