O estudo da transitividade em manchetes de jornal on-line

Abstract

This dissertation researches the phenomenon of Transitivity in online news headlines, more specifically on Jornal G1 (G1 news), in Espírito Santo State, under the title “Destaques” (focus), in March 2018. Its corpus encompasses 80 headlines, 49 of wich consist of active structures and 31 are passive. The analysis of the corpus of this study holds an analytical, descriptive and explicative aspect, characterized by a qualitative methodology. In order to comprehend the phenomenon of transitivity we applied the Hopper and Thompson (1980) theoretical-methodological proposal, classified under Linguistic Functionalism (HOPPER; THOMPSON, 1980; Givón, 2001; Thompson; Hopper, 2001). We sought to demonstrate, through assessment of Transitivity in online news headlines, how this phenomenon gets established in the media and in the construction of discourse. Thus, we have observed that the sentences that report the main events of the day are of high transitivity. This research, therefore, contributes to the study on transitivity under the perspective of functionalism of speech by showing how this phenomenon takes place within the online news headline genre.
