Resumo

An efficient management should be based on the search for balance in budget execution, seeking the best performance with the available resources. The budget of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Espírito Santo (IFES) is complex, as its composition depends on several issues, such as legislation, mathematical models, and spending classification, among others. Understanding these variables, it is possible to understand what must be done for the institution to have the application of resources appropriate to its reality. This study aims to identify the efficiency in the application of public resources, destined to high school in the campuses of the IFES in the period from 2018 to 2022. The set of units is composed of the 19 campi that offer regular, concurrent or integrated high school. Regarding the methodology, the research had a quantitative, descriptive and documentary character, and for data analysis, the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) technique was used, which made it possible to evaluate the efficiency of the campuses. Five variables were considered for the application of the DEA technique: annual budget, number of teachers, number of classes and number of enrollments as inputs, and the average ENEM score as output. This study contributes to the literature as it investigates the evolution of the efficiency of the campuses, which have several particularities, but all act in the triad teaching, research, extension. The research revealed that the units located in the Central Serrana Microregion obtained the best results in terms of efficiency, followed by the Northeast region. In this context, the Vila Velha Campus stood out as the main model of excellence, consistently demonstrating a high level of performance. From the perspective of institutional management, it was possible to identify the most efficient units. This information supports decision-making in the educational policy of the evaluated units, since the inefficient ones can be guided by those that serve as a benchmark, which will contribute to improving both the allocation of resources and the performance of the campi
