This work, in the wake of the discussions that concern the paradoxes of literary nationalism, intends to look into the works Casa-Grande & Senzala and Grande Sertao: Veredas, the first of Gilberto Freyre, published in 1933, the second, published in 1956, of João Guimarães Rosa. The analysis horizons that guide the work and finally juxtapose in a paradoxical unity and interrogative can be summarized in the following questions: 1) To what extent the work of Guimarães Rosa deals with the first romantic question of establishing a national literary identity(?); 2) To what extent realized in Grande Sertao: Veredas the presence of a "Freyrean architecture" of Brazilian identity - namely the Casa Grande as a regulator of relations in the backlands (?).
