Processo de trabalho do enfermeiro em instituições de longa permanência para idosos de uma capital da Região Sudeste

Abstract

Population aging is happening at an accelerated rate in all countries. Despite efforts made to ensure an old age increasingly active, some seniors experience some weakness, which requires the need to create alternatives that provide better health for the seniors. The seniors’ long permanence institution for the elderly emerged in order to meet this demand by offering the elderly social care and health services, caring for independent elderly and dependent care. Some compose their work teams with nursing professionals, not always with the presence of nurses little is known about the working process of this professional in these institutions. Objective: To understand how to set up the working process of nurses according to the five dimensions: watch, manage, teach, research and participate politically. Method: This is an exploratory study with a qualitative approach, conducted through audio taped interviews with nurses working in the seniors’ long permanence institution, in Vitória, the state capital of Espírito Santo, Brazil, which were submitted the content analysis. Of the seven institutions identified with the presence of nurses in Vitória, they were interviewed 08 participants, representing all of nurses who work in the seniors’ long permanence institution. Results: Of the five dimensions of the work process proposed, the results showed that nurses mainly develop actions of management and care, and found few actions the dimensions educate, research and participate politically. Conclusion: The role of nurses in long-stay institutions for the senior is very important to meet the seniors care needs and ensure the implementation of actions focused on disease prevention, evaluation, promotion, maintenance and recovery of health. However, highlights the need to discuss and reformulate health policies in order to ensure the strengthening of the nursing work process in the institutions of seniors’ long permanence.
