Resumo

The subject of this dissertation is the treatment given by the Polish philosopher and logician Jan Łukasiewicz (1878–1956) to the Principle of Non-Contradiction (PC) in his critical study O zasadzie sprzeczności u Arystotelesa (1910). First, we offer a brief contextualization of the genesis of this author’s thinking, and then we begin a detailed analysis of the content of his book. Such content is presented in two parts: (1) the analysis offered by Łukasiewicz on the PC in its Aristotelian formulation; and (2) the formulation of the PC that the Polish philosopher himself undertakes. Finally, we expose and review the main criticisms raised by Łukasiewicz’s book, in order to know if there are any that are capable of invalidating all his arguments.
