Resumo

The goal of this research is analyze the difficulties, representation and methods of solving equations in the first grade of high school students, so that, with the recognition of these difficulties, teachers can better address them in an attempt to avoid them. The data was collected and analyzed based in a fill Algebras researchers. This research was developed based on the application of a questionnaire and five activities, which follow a line of development in solving equations, in which students make reference to the relationship of equations with some methodologies such as representation on a scale. In this application, four methods of solving equations were used: Generate and Evaluate, Hide, Undo and Equivalent Equations. Analyzes were made of the activities carried out by students, which generated reflection on their algebraic development. The analyzed results showed the importance of working in the classroom with more than one method to develop the contents, considering that each student has its own way.
