This research work aims to seek the JongopracticeinSãoMateus city in order to join it to other Physical Education practices on its learning. It is considered that the discussions concerned about the urgency of the school curriculum is needed to be strengthen as an attempt to adequate them into the ethnic-racial diversity found in the schools, through a proposal which supports several groups in need and that have been conquering attention in the way of thinking and producing culture from a perspective about the society. Firstly, this work seeks to understand the paths taken by the Physical Education since its insertionin the school subject board -intended to support Govern‟spolitical ideals - to its opening ( from the 80‟s) for a more humanized perspective on thinking about its subjects. It was only after this opening that was possible to think about cultural protests united to teaching practices. This work focused specifically on the Jongo practice, cultural afro-brazilian manifestation, exclusively found in the Southest region of the country. As an analysis of this practice a study was done based on bibliographical sources concerned on the topic, as well as oral sources, jongueiros residents of the city. After its practice a field study was accomplished by teachers and students. The practical intervention was developed with students from the 5th grade in reunions at a city elementary school during 9 physical education classes observed by the official teacher. A graduation reunion was conducted with teachers in order to make them warn about this work and it offered them the possibility to practice the Jongo activity and some theorical expositions about it. As a conclusion this work presents the school environment as well as the physical education subject as a proper place to deal with the ethnic-racial theme due to its collaborative role on the process of the local cultural-practices perpetuation in the quest of facing the different forms of racism e prejudice found in that institution. The insertion of topics from this kind of theme in the PE subject contributes to afro-brazilian children‟s identity formation that starts to realize the representative existence from the beauty and richness of their own people‟s culture. Finallyit is affirmed the urgency of discussing and presenting alternatives for reaching a better appreciation and perpetuation of the local culture practices which are forgotten and/or ignored by the City political authorities and due to that fact it has been facing big difficulties to keep alive its tradition.
