In the northern coast of Espírito Santo discharges the Doce river fluvial plume , which highly influences the surrounding coastal environment. The aim of this study was to simulate the Doce River fluvial plume and study its behavior. The study was carried out through 2DH model and a lagrangean model. 2DH model was calibrated and its results were employed to study the plume dinamics. Lagrangean model results were compared with satellite images to analyze the model and plume dinamics. Results indicated different plume dynamic patterns: the incidence of high intensity NE wind induce the vortex formation at river mouth south zone, the incidence of high intensity SE wind induce the plume contention at the river mouth front. High river flow discharge also induce the plume contention. As a first approach, 2DH simulation represented a efficient method to study the Doce river plume dynamics. Lagrangean model application associated with satellites images allowed the characterization of plume dynamics, has observed in the literature review. Though, better results were achieved for high wind conditions, thus caution is needed to result interpretation.
