Pregnancy is a period of intense physical and emotional transformations, in the face of so many changes, feelings such as fear and insecurity are commonly experienced. In view of this, prenatal care in addition to monitoring the evolution of pregnancy, is a source of welcoming, learning and support. For this, the performance of health education activities contributes to the qualification of care, and is an important strategy to resolve doubts, promote autonomy and empowerment of women, providing a better experience of their pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood. The aim of this study was to verify the knowledge of third trimester pregnant women on issues related to labor and delivery in Espírito Santo. A cross-sectional study was carried out with 100 pregnant womenin the third trimester, aged 20 years or older, and resided in the State of Espírito Santo. Data collection occurred online between September/2021 and March/2022 through an electronic questionnaire built on the REDCapplatform (Research Electronic Data Capture) containing questions about socioeconomic characteristics, obstetric history, current pregnancy, childbirth preferences, knowledge about labor and delivery. The evaluation of knowledge about childbirth was carried out using the EOR System (Praise-Orient-Recommend). Most of the participants were young, with a family income greater than three minimum wages, with paid employment, complete higher education and who lived with a partner. Regarding the obstetric history, most of them were in their first pregnancy, all of them underwent prenatal care, for most of the follow-up was carried out in the private service, by the doctor and starting before the 13th week of pregnancy. Most searched or received information about childbirth during pregnancy and preferred vaginal delivery. In the assessment of knowledge about childbirth and EOR classification, 42% of the participants received the “Praise”, 41% received the “Orient” and 17% received the “Recommend”. In the EOR classification, praising was associated with having sought or received information about childbirth (p=0.000), having completed higher education (p=0.007), family income greater than five minimum wages (p=0.032), living with up to two residents at home (p=0.036), prenatal care in the private service (p=0.030) and preference for vaginal delivery (p=0.000). The use of the EOR system proved to be efficient to assess the knowledge of pregnant women about childbirth, and through it to provide the necessary guidelines observed from the knowledge gaps, in order to strengthen autonomy and encourage the search for information.
