Sistema de informação geográfica como ferramenta auxiliar no processo de gestão das universidades

Abstract

Gathering information about geographic distribution is important as it allows you to locate problem points within a given space to remedy them. This type of information has been widely used to aid in the decision-making of different organizations, whether from public or private initiative, due to its results. The Campus of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), located in the city of Alegre-ES, was included in the expansion plans of the Federal Government and its built area increased in the period from 2004 to 2014. The works carried out considerably extended the area built from the Campus, giving rise to a series of space problems, such as lack of parking spaces, insufficient classroom, among others. This raised the discussion if there was planning regarding the use and occupation of the ground in the campus of the Campus. Thus, the objective of this work was to create a georeferenced database of the physical structure of the UFES / Campus Alegre area, through the GIS, and propose this new auxiliary tool in the decision making process of university management, aiming at efficiency in the use of physical spaces. In order to reach this objective, a bibliographical and documentary research was initially carried out in order to know the main researches carried out in the area, then a survey of data was carried out, highlighting the main characteristics of each built construction. Finally, a GIS database was prepared with all the information related to the study site, in order to analyze whether the physical development of the Campus was in accordance with the rules established by the institution, seeking to identify the origins of the abovementioned problems . This database is the applied product of this dissertation in agreement with the management of operations in the public sector showing the importance of the planning implemented through the elaboration, execution and evaluation of projects, that will allow to assist in the future managerial decisions of the Campus
