We place this Dissertation in Critical Discourse Analysis, of a sociocognitive aspect whose main representative is van Dijk (2009, 2012, 2016, 2017). Our general objective is to verify the social representation of women in chronicles written by Pedro Maia and for specific objectives: to identify how the androcentric point of view appears in Pedro Maia's chronicles through analysis of discursive structures and strategies; to describe the way in which the journalistic discourse in Pedro Maia's chronicles contributes to the inequalities between male and female genders; explain the bases of androcentric discourse in Pedro Maia's chronicles and its permanence in the form of mental models. This research is justified because, although Pedro Maia recognizes in his chronicles that women have achieved rights in society, we note that the form of social representation he makes of them is androcentric. This representation is the result of androcentric mental models. In this sense, the research adopted the following methodological procedures: Theoretical-analytical procedure: theoretical review of the main concepts treated in this Dissertation, such as: Androcentrism, Social Representation, Superstructure, Macrostructure and textualdiscursive microstructure of the chronicle of everyday life. Selection of analysis material: we collected 33 chronicles on Mother's Day, Bride's Day and International Women's Day. These criteria are important for analyzing whether there are androcentric beliefs, opinions or prejudices in journalistic discourse. Of these, we separate 16 in which these beliefs are shared; among this amount, we separate 7 in which the presence of these androcentric ideologies is most noticeable; we reduced this number to 3, considering the most representative ones from 2002 to 2014. Thus, we selected chronicles between the years 2002, 2005 and 2009. We did not choose beyond this year because some chronicles were republished on women's commemorative dates. As a result, we show that journalistic chronicles present an androcentric discourse by which the male instance, while empowering women, represents them in a sexist, stereotyped and disrespectful way.
