Abstract

This work presents an analysis of the potential utilization of a static compensator (STATCOM) as a substitute or a complementary alternative to the classical voltage regulation and balancing techniques, high-lighting each alternative characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, considering the parameters of an actual 13,8 kV distribution circuit. These studies were performed focusing on an utility company investment alternatives among the technical solutions available to mitigate, avoid or postpone expenses, in order to cope with the prudent and necessary investment legal principle to reach a lower energy tariff
