Resumo

Compressing different lignocellulosic materials is one of the alternatives to improve the problems related to energy production and reduce the use of sources derived from fossil fuels. The aim of this work was to evaluate the energy potential of pellets with different biomasses, such as eucalyptus wood from a clone Eucalyptus grandis x Eucalyptus urophylla, sugarcane bagasse (Saccharun officinarum L.) and elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schum). To the production of pellets were used diferentes biomasses. The moisture content and particle size were determined according to the characteristics of each material. In addition to the pellets of the above analysis, it was determined yet, it was determined bulk and energy density; the extractives content, total lignin, ash and upper calorific value of the compositions and pellets. It was determined yet, the mechanical life, fines content, diametrical compression, diameter, length and density unit. The pelletizing process of biomass resulted in increased upper calorific value, bulk density and energy and reduction of moisture of the fuels. The pellets produced with two biomasses performed better than those produced with only one biomass. In general, the performance of the pellets produced was superior to the commercial pellet. Pellets with 50% of elephant grass and 50% eucalyptus wood shawm better in relation to the upper calorific value, bulk density and energy, mechanical durability and unit density. The pellets produced to attended the German standard on some requirements.
