Audiodescrição : um estudo sobre o acesso às imagens por pessoas com deficiência visual no Estado do Espírito Santo

Abstract

Doctoral thesis, focused on audiodescription, affiliated to the Post-Graduation Program in Education of the Education Center of the Federal University of Espírito Santo. It problematizes the access to images by visually impaired people as a citizenship right. The qualitative research was carried out between 2014 and 2017, at the Luiz Braille Institute of Espírito Santo, the Pedagogical Support Center (CAP) and the Sesc Glória Cultural Center, all in Vitória - ES, with the participation of visually impaired people from different cities, such as Vitória, Vila Velha, Cariacica, Serra, Linhares and Aracruz, all in Espírito Santo. It sought to answer the question: How can audiodescription, as an exotopic exercise, mediate access to images by visually impaired people and how is it produced in the state of Espírito Santo? Therefore establishing an interlocution with Bakhtin, in order to discuss about mediation, alterity and exotopia; Walter Benjamin, for the study on Translation and Technical Reproducibility, Schutz-Foerste and Ciavatta, for imagetic questions, and Oliver Sacks through the analysis of the relations between the visually impaired person and the imaginary world. In particular, it was based on the dialogues with the research subjects, who are visually impaired people, among them, the audio-description consultant Aparecida Pereira Leite, who validated the audiodescription of the images portrayed along this thesis and enriched our study with their testimonies; also the subjects of the Luiz Braille Institute, the Pedagogical Support Center (CAP) and the spectators of the theatre play ―General Essay‖, coming from different cities of the state of Espírito Santo. Our experiments and analyzes led us to defend the thesis that audiodescription is a crude experience in the State of Espírito Santo and its implementation and optimization enforces the need for dialogue through Bakhtin exotopia‘s perspective. The thesis seeks possibilities to conduct imagetic mediation with blind people, in adition to translation, mimesis or interpretation.
