Resumo

This dissertation aims to present, through an exploratory research of a qualitative nature, the legislation on distance education, showing an overview of its normative evolution and emphasizing that it is constantly improving in the face of ICT developments. With the advent of the Covid-19 Pandemic, EaD became the viable possibility, as this teaching modality is a process that takes place remotely and online, mediated by technological resources. And there is no doubt that it has been fundamental for us to go through this moment of crisis. Data indicate that Brazilians have been adhering to distance education, and we will discuss here the reasons why this has been happening. We emphasize that it is categorical, as shown in the Quality Benchmarks for distance learning document, there is no single model. However, in search of the improvement of Brazilian education, this piece stands out for its importance in promoting this journey. The teacher is a vitally relevant piece for this change, because this professional is responsible to put into practice in the classroom, the goals/directions traced for education. In this sense, the text addresses, based on the literature review, favorable and contrary points from the point of view of teachers and the opinions of researchers on the comparison between face-to-face education versus distance education. The possibilities that distance education can provide to democratize access to education are numerous, but in order to put it into action, continuous efforts are needed both from those who provide the means and from those who seek this path.
