This study aims to investigate the English teacher education at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), focusing on the contributions of the Languages Without Borders Program (LwB) in this process. I intended to analyze the perspectives of preservice teachers on the pedagogical experience that was offered to them, considering the particularities of the LwB program, which, among other things, values the development of teachers’ autonomy and is focused on internationalization. The construction of this research took two different paths: the first investigated the conceptual reflections and possible ideological positions of the participants regarding English language teaching and the internationalization process; and the second investigated the perspective of the participants on the teacher training provided by the program. The results of the analysis indicate that a) the concept of internationalization does not seem to be clear to any of the participants, even though they have worked in a program with internationalization purposes; b) all the participants associated the concept of internationalization to the English language; c) all participants showed some critical awareness about the role of English in the global world; d) all participants affirmed that the experience in the LwB program was positive despite being difficult in certain aspects; e) most participants claimed that the main learning experience with the program was the development of the ability to produce teaching materials; f) most participants showed positive reflexes in self-esteem after the experience in the program. The study contributes to the reflection and improvement of English teacher education courses by indicating the particularities of the program that had a positive impact on the development of the participants and that can be replicated.
