Galeria de Arte e Pesquisa da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo: Articulações entre o centro de artes e a cidade de Vitória (1976 A 1995)

Resumo

This research focused to study the Art and Research Gallery of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (GAP/Ufes) to understand its insertion in the academic scenario and the articulations it promoted with both Vitória city, ES, and education. The scope of the investigation covers the year of installation of GAP in the Chapel – 1976 – to the year it moved to the university campus – 1995. Methodologically, it seeks to reconstitute the historical context of Santa Luzia Chapel with the aim to understand the changes and re-significations of this space over the years, through a memorialistic rescue of the events of art, education and culture. In the methodological path, it took as its investigative corpus: verbal and written documents, as well as public and private ones, as testimonies, normative and administrative management of the Arts Center of Ufes and GAP/Ufes, invitations, catalogs and presence books of GAP/Ufes, periodicals from the local press, visual documents as photographs, and audiovisual documents such as documentaries. Hence, it is characterized as a historical and documentary research, as it articulates the past and the present, recovering in documents and testimonies a not so distant past. Theoretically, it was supported by the studies on history and memory by Le Goff (1998), Pollack (1989) and Halbwachs (2006) and by Landowski's (1996) semiotic concepts of intertextuality and interdiscursivity by placing in relation and dialogue a documentary corpus revealing a collective and local history. Data, united and compared, revealed that from 1976 to 1988 there were 138 exhibitions, and that from 1977 to 1992 the GAP collection of works was exhibited ten times to the public; the last one in 1992, divided into three spaces: GAP, Gaeu and Pinacoteca of the Central Library. Thus, they showed that the relationship between the GAP exhibition space, occupying Santa Luzia Chapel, and the educational setting of the Arts Center, by exceeding the institutional limits of the campus, boosted the educational, artistic and cultural activities of CAR in the city of Vitória, in an intertwining between Art and Education, between history and memory, the academic and the social life. It also culminated in the establishment of a University Art Collection that was assembled from the GAP/Ufes collection, which from 1976 to 1988 brought together around 235 works of art from different artistic techniques.
