Infância e biblioteca escolar: um estudo de caso sobre interesse de leituras literárias

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the interests of childrens when choosing a particular literature book to read, notably considering the collection available in the school library. As specific objectives we seek to understand the dynamics that underlie the functioning of the school library of an EMEF belonging to the municipal school system of Vitória / ES and identify the mediation processes present in this space. For such, we have as field of study the Emef Zilda Andrade, located in Bairro da Penha. As research subjects, we had as participants children between 6 and 7 years old enrolled in two classes of 1st year of Elementary School. Methodologically, this study is characterized as a qualitative case study. For data production, we had participant observation, semi structured interviews, household questionnaire application, as well as photographic record and notes in the field diary. In the dialogue with the theoretical support and the empirical context, the concepts of children's literature stand out (ZILBERMAN, 1988; 2003); school library (CAMPELLO, 2002); child and childhood (SARMENTO, 2007, 2008), among others. Notably, in the Historical-Cultural Theory, from the approach of Lev Semenovich Vigotski (2007; 2009; 2017), the concepts of interest and mediation are synthesized. Analysis allows us to recognize important processes that mediate choices by the child. The library occupies a fundamental role in the mediation of literary reading. The available collection and its circulation mediated by educational practices, as well as exchanges of information among children, foster children's interest, contributing to their choices
